Upon the death of his elder brother Spytihnev in 915, Vratislaus became Bohemian duke at a time when his duchy had already turned away from Great Moravia and had fallen under East Frankish, especially Bavarian influence.

Wenceslas is the subject of the Christmas carol "Good King Wenceslas". He is venerated as Saint Wenceslaus and is the main patron saint of the Czech state. His murder in September of 935 was the result of a plot involving his younger brother Boleslav I of Bohemia. wiki: Wiki
