Melville Cemetery

The oldest burial recorded in the cemetery was Jannet Campbell. This is a photo of the headstone from this cemetery. Melville Church Cemetery - 70 Old Kingston Rd. - West Hill, York County, Ontario.

MELVILLE CHURCH

The first Presbyterian church in this area, a small frame building, was erected here in 1851 under the leadership of Thomas Wightman, pastor of Knox Church Agincourt and first minister of Melville, and leaders William Young and William Ferguson. The site was the gift of George Stephenson, a Highland Creek miller. The original frame church was bricked over in 1887, and in 1899 a large manse was built nearby and presented to the congregation by John, Sandy and James Neilson.

St. James Anglican Cemetery, Toronto

Monument designed by William Thomas, Canadian Architect: appears THOMS family are interred here. Plaque next to the ornate memorial stone to William THOMAS; famous Canadian Architect. Notable landmarks to his credit, St. Michael's Cathedral and Toronto Jail.

Memorial stone erected by the Scottish Society of Toronto. Unusual memorial stone, with Chapel of St. James the Less in background.

Map at entrance to cemetery grounds. Memorial to Fanny PEARSON; length of stone about 9 or 10 feet. Appears to have been carved from one entire piece of stone and overlayed with cement.

Memorial to William COOPER Esq. died 1840 aged 79 years. Amazing condition of stone. Plaque explains the Chapel that is on the grounds of St. James Anglican Cemetery, Toronto.

Both sides of this ornate memorial stone has the features of an owl with wings spread holding up the rectangular slab. Unusual cut stone. Only one part of stone is cut (resembles a knights shield) where inscription of burial in indicated. It is angled as such.
