Dornock Cemetery

I think there is one at a church at Dornock, south of Owen Sound. My relatives are buried there. I think it may be in Grey county or touching the boarder of Bruce. I had a picture sent to me odf my ggrandfathers headstone. They settled therein about 1847, came from eastern Ontario. His Name was John McIntosh.

Ebeneezer Cemetery

EBENEZER CEMETERY

The earliest records show that Martin Stoneouse, Barnabas Jackson and Stuart Bothwell, as elected trustees of the Canadian Weslyan Methodist New Connextion Church did purchase a portion of Lot 29 on the 2nd Concession South Durham Road, Glenelg, from Samuel and Isabella Chislett, for purposes of the above named church on April 9th, 1859.
Family history shows that Martin Stoneouse came here as a missionary in 1855 but there are 3 stones recording burials prior to 1859.
After the church ceased to operate here, the cemetery was neglected for many years.  Some work was done in 1948 and  this displaced some stones.  It was again neglected until interest was shown and a meeting was held Jan. 27, 1976.  A Board of Trustees was elected with Alex Stoneouse as chairman, and over the years it has been refurbished and made presentable.  It now has a caretaker, paid by a form of perpetual care fund income, donated by several individuals along with the free labour to refurbish it.
The cemetery has 47 memorial stones with 107 names.  There is also a pad with 9 displaced stones with 13 names.  There is known to have been many other burials that are not recorded.  One of these is John Drinage, died February 22, 1895. There were originally 40 plotholders listed.  There is a metal sign on a post, “Ebenezer”

McKechnie Cemetery

MCKECHNIE CEMETERY

This cemetery is located at Lot 46 & 47 Concession l, North Durham Road, Glenelg.
It began with a public meeting on November 20th, 1889 when Daniel Ferguson, Wm. Watson Jr. and Neil McKechnie were elected the 1st trustees.  They purchased part of lot 47 containing 11.67 square feet from Mary, Kate and Maggie McKechnie for $2.00 on March 21st, 1898, for a Burial Grounds for the townships of Glenelg, Artemesia, Proton and Egremont.
A set of rules were put forth guaranteeing that a trustee would always be replaced, but somehow, something went astray and the cemetery got into disrepair and became the 3rd to be refurbished.
It contains 27 stones with 64 names and there are others unlisted.  Names such as McKechnie, McQuarrie, Madden, Ferguson, King, Watters, McDougall, Lumeley, Badgeras, McLachlan, Walker, Beacroft, McAuby, Stewart, Burnett, Amelia, Mintyre, Zetta, McGowan, Robinson, Gilespie, Shilburn, McGrath, Henderson, Reed, Tilt, Whyte and Kennedy.
A fund was established by Alex Stoneouse to ensure it’s upkeep.

Smellies Pioneer Cemetery

 SMELLIES CEMETERY

Lot 31, Concession 1, North Durham Road.

The Durham Road Presbyterian, commonly known as Smellies Cemetery was begun in 1859 when the site was granted by Reverend John McMillen and the 1st church was built.  Although the church had a short number of years, the cemetery was unused until 1958.
It has 16 memorial stones and some broken, with 50 names thereon and there are no records of burial.  It too was neglected for many years until 1960 when Archibald McCuaig and Alex Stoneouse as self-appointed trustees operating outside the church refurbished it with the help of others who donated labor and funds, and have cared for it since that time.  Alex Stoneouse has set up a fund that will produce an income to provide a form of perpetual care and it will be returned to Priceville Presbyterian Church administration in 1986.
Names such as McPhail, McLeod, McCuaig, McCannel, Smith, Kennedy, Stoneouse, Campbell, McKinnon, McInnis, Clarke, Carmichael, Stewart and Livingston are included here.
There is a plaque listing it as the site of the first Durham Road Presbyterian Church.
There is also a private burial on his own farm Lot 18, Concession 1, South Durham Road.  John Brown, died June 3, 1861, aged 50 years, native of Holland.

Treasurer – Alex Stoneouse & St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Perpetual Care Fund.

Settler's Cemetery at Oxenden

History of the little fenced in pioneer cemetery: There are said to have been nine people buried there. Some missionaries were in the area before 1862, but no settlers since it remained Indian land until that time. The cemetery is located just east of the village of Oxenden in Keppel Township, Grey County. It is not visible from the road. Just over the bridge that crosses the river where pioneers established mills, there is a large meadow. The lay of the land here slopes gently but distinctly downward. By looking to the north you can gaze upon a fabulous view of the deep blue waters of Colpoy's Bay and the dark green forest on the opposite shore, hazy in the background. One must cross the field to a stand of trees, go around them, over a little creek and upward into a light bush. An old fence with a gate, encloses about a fifteen foot square that is the graveyard. The escarpment shows just to the south of the area, creating a four foot natural backdrop on the south side. It is a serene and peaceful place.

Normanby Abandoned Cemetery - Con. 4, Lot 15

It is believed that a half acre of land was used as a burial ground prior to the 1900s . The following headstones are all that remains. John Bosomworth cemented the remaining headstones into a pad to save the remaining stones and also to preserve this once cemetery. Here is what the stones have written on them. “Mary McBride, wife of William McBride died June 16, 1865 age 50 years. John OGram died 1879 , a native of England. John Colquhaun age 9 years” Overgrown and neglected About this cemetery: I have a theory that this cemetery and most of the people buried in where moved across the road to the North Salem Methodist cemetery. As Ogram was Methodist in the 1871 census and McBride husband is buried at the Methodist cemetery also, it seems possible.

Storey's Cemetery

Storey's Cemetery is located on Lot 2, Con. 9.  It was started by my GGGrandfather, James Storey when he had to bury his first wife Margaret Robertson about 1836, not long after their marriage. It was located on his brother Walter's property. Although it has been said that Margaret was the first to be buried there, unfortunately there is no marker for her.

The 1st picture is of the gate to the Cemetery which has the name on it.
The 2nd picture is of my GGGrandfather James Storey's tombstone, and the 3rd and 4th pictures are of a rubbing I took of this stone as it was too deteriorated to read.
The 5th pictures is of James brother Walter Storey and wife Jessie Douglas.
The 6th & 7th pictures are of James son William Storey & his wife Elizabeth Ramsay and 2 of their children Abigal and Anna.
