13 July 1864 at Cleveland, Ohio

   The 8th Ohio Volunteer Infantry was organized on 29 April 1861 for three months service in response to President Lincoln’s initial call for 75,000 volunteers. On 24 July 1861, at Camp Dennison, Ohio, the 8th Ohio was re-organized and mustered into active Federal service for three years. The 8th Ohio would serve in the Eastern Theater the duration of the war and participate in at least 10 major engagements and various smaller ones. The 8th Ohio was mustered out on 13 July 1864 at Cleveland, Ohio.
