From "Into the Eye of The Setting Sun"

We then followed the North Platte for several weeks.  We were traveling along it when we came to Chimney Rock.  We must have "nooned" or camped there for our boys carved their names on the face of it.  There were a few names there, even then.  I have always wanted to go back to see if they were still legible.

Perhaps some stranger will read these lines and in passing Chimney Rock, will think of an old woman, who was there over eighty years ago.  If he does, perhaps he will loiter long enough to look on the face of the rock and see if any of the names mentioned in these sketches have withstood the ravages of time and storms.
