The Butler County Home for the Aged was constructed in 1884 on a hill at the east end of High Street, overlooking the city. It was constructed to house 155 residents. By the 1950's the home was inadequate and the third floor of the building was closed because it did not meet fire and health standards. |

After the passage of a tax levy in November, 1974, a new county home was constructed. The old building was vacated in 1976 and in February, 1983, fire claimed the building and the ruins were soon demolished.
