Grand Stand, 1913
The Butler County Agricultural Society held its first fair in Hamilton, October 13 and 14, 1836. William Bebb, former governor of Ohio, spoke at the occasion. The fair was held along High Street. The fair continued there until 1851 when it was moved to an area near the canal basin. In 1856, thirty-nine acres of ground were purchased for a permanent fair grounds. Additional land was later purchased.
By 1868, the fair had grown considerably in popularity and rivaled the annual Ohio State Fair in Columbus. In 2000, the Butler County Fair celebrated its 150th year.
