Back when bicycles were more of a novelty, cycling was all the rage and groups of local enthusiasts met regularly. The Butler County Cycle Club, chartered April 2, 1894, was listed in the Hamilton City directories until 1929. At its founding it was known as the Star Cycle Club, but later changed to the Butler County Cycle Club when cyclists from Middletown and Oxford showed interest. The club published cycling routes and also sponsored "century trips," bicycle trips of one-hundred miles.
