Butler County Children's Home, Hamilton
425 South "D" Street

The Children's Home Association was founded in 1869 by a group of concerned Christian women and two clergymen who saw the need for such a home in Butler County.  The first meeting of the group was held at the home of Mrs. Thomas Moore.  On May 14, 1869, the first children's home was opened in a rented house on North "C" Street.
Butler County Children's Home, in use from 1875 to 1985

In 1875, the group received a generous gift toward a permanent children's home.  Clark Lane and his partner E.J. Dyer offered $10,000 toward the purchase of the property with the stipulation that Lane's son be cared for in the home and that the group raise $2,000 for operating expenses.  Once this goal was achieved, the Dyer farm was purchased and the home opened at 425 South "D" Street in September, 1875.

The home was closed in 1985 due to financial problems and a lack of referrals.
