Business and Industry in
Butler County
Butler
County has enjoyed a wide array of industry and business. The cities
of Hamilton and Middletown attracted industries which manufactured hundreds
of products including paper, steel, machine tools, safes, and bicycles. |
A number of these companies were founded
in the county and later established branch offices and facilities throughtout
the United States. Many have been world-wide leaders in their particular
industry: Mosler (safes), Champion (coated paper), ARMCO (steel), and Hooven,
Owens, Rentschler (machine tools). |
| Other companies were founded elsewhere, such as in Cincinnati,
and moved to Hamilton or Middletown to build larger facilities. |
|
| The outlying townships were agricultural centers and
have been the site of new development in recent years. The City of
Fairfield, founded in 1957, is still a young community having been carved
out of Fairfield Township. There has also been remarkable growth
in other areas of the county including Liberty and Union (West Chester)
townships. |
