1) Civil registration records- beginning 1864 (1845 for Church of Ireland marriages). Index books available at Register Office in Dublin and also now on-line
( http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html
#start- appears fairly accurate as I’ve checked it against my earlier searches). Can order records from the
General Register Office- http://www.groireland.ie/ , but some are available at the Family History Center in London (only select years, but can save a lot of money when you’re doing a one-name study!)
(worldwide - FHC's can order the same items)
2) Census records- 1901 and 1911. Most earlier census records destroyed, but occasionally a parish survives pre-1901. Available at the Irish National Archives and slowly appearing on-line
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
3) Catholic Parish Registers- on microfilm at the National Library of Ireland. All freely available now as far as I know. Go up to 1880 and tend to begin 19th century, although some are earlier.
4) Church of Ireland Parish Registers- a list of these is available from the Church Representative Body Library. Many have been destroyed and I have a list of surviving ones at the library. Some also on microfilm at the Irish National Archives, but the ones I have seen are poor quality and hard to read. The CRBL has published some in book form.
( Church Representative Body library is in Dublin (although I've never actually
been there- they are very good at answering e-mails though). Here: http://www.ireland.anglican.org/index.php?do=about&id=42 )
5) Registry of Deeds, Dublin- contains all deeds registered since 1708. The deeds are indexed by grantor (no index to grantees yet) and by townland. I believe that the indexes are microfilmed and you can look at them at the FHC at Hyde Park.
6) Griffith’s Valuation- taken between 1848 and 1864. Names land occupiers in Ireland. Available at the NLI, but also on-line. I think there are a few sites, but this ones seems to be quite good-
http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php
.
7) Tithe Applotments- names land holders in Ireland, 1823-1838. Available at the National Archives and microfilm at the National Library and on various websites.
8) Marriage licence bonds index- at the National Archives in books, arranged by diocese. The bonds themselves have not survived, but the index gives details of both parties to the marriage and the year. These are just Church of Ireland marriages so may be of limited use.
9) Police records (DMP and RIC). I’ve found several Perrys in the police. I used to get these from the Garda Archives in Dublin, but I don’t think they do lookups any more and there are microfilms of the records at the British National Archives.
10) Wills- very confused by these. There is an index CD available, also several indexes in the National Archives in Dublin. Some of the wills were destroyed and so only the index survives. But there are also a lot of will books that contain copies of the originals. There is a summary here:
http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy/testamentary.html.
11) Hayes index at the National Library of Ireland- on Kildare Street in
Dublin. This contains an index of names, places and subjects. It also includes the Genealogical Office’s heraldic records and has details of records at the NLI and other
respositories.
