Mackenzie Manuscript on Philipse Manor Families

NOTE: Below are copies of several messages posted to the GEN-NYS-L mailing list about a typed manuscript entitled The English Families of Philipse Manor in Westchester County, New York by Grenville C. Mackenzie, 1942. From the list in one of the messages, a number of surnames that appear in S.C. Cleveland's History and Directory of Yates Co., New York also appear in this work, such as Barker, Barnes, Boyce, Conklin, Disbrow, Ferris, Huson, Knapp, Sutton, and Valentine, etc. See also the list of Sources for this manuscript.

Subj:	Mackenzie Manuscript on Philipse Manor Families

"Mackenzie" refers to a typed manuscript called "The English Families of Philipse Manor in Westchester County, New York" by Grenville C. Mackenzie, 1942 and later dates. He was a professional genealogist who assembled this work over a period of years treating each family in a separate set of pages. I've never cross checked, but it purportedly covers all the families that were residents of Philipse Manor in the late 17th and 18th centuries, about 75 in number is my recollection. Although Mackenzie's first work was carefully sourced, later corrections and additions, many provided by family descendants who contacted Mackenzie, were not. None of the information is documented, but it is generally considered to be accurate but in need of confirmation. I know of only two copies, one at the Westchester County Historical Society and the other at the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society library in New York City. Their addresses are below:
