Preston Cemetery is located on private property and I had to ask permission to shoot this cemetery.The first town in Wharton County was called Preston,Texas and it was at this site that the people of this town decided to lay their dead to rest. It is a beautiful spot under the huge oak trees, but I bet the towns people never imagined that the once serene place they chose whould end up like this after 100 years. The cemetery is in the middle of a cow pasture and the cows have free reign of the cemetery as you can see in the photos. This cemetery has been cleaned once about 30 years ago and in 1960 The Junior Historians layed a stone at the road.It is a shame that this cemetery is in ruins as it is a piece of Wharton County history. Now the only ones who frequent it are the cows and the snakes as you will see in the photos. |
