Brooks-Spivi Cemetery is a small cemetery located in East Bernard, Texas. I took Leveredge drive to a left on Red Bud Lane. This cemetery is located on Young family private property and is located behind their house. There are only 3 headstones out of the dozen or so original ones left. There have been floods and it has moved the stones but they are in the general area of the graves. I was told that someone came out there at one time and poked around in the ground and they found graves on the other side of the fence. I was also told that I was welcome to come back out and try to find where all the unmarked graves are located and dig around and see if any of the old headstones are just under the surface of the ground. This cemetery dates from pre-civil war and during the civil war and has been taken care of over the years.There are several pictures of M.E. Brooks (a 1 year old baby) headstone as we dug it out of the ground to read the dates. | |
