John William Veazey came to Wharton in 1850 and moved to La Grange in 1870.

Born in Warren County, GA in 1825, died in La Grange in 1871 from TB he contracted while serving in the Civil War.

He was a doctor in Wharton County for 20 years, from 1850-1870.

He served in the Civil War from 1861-1863 as a Captain in the 35th Texas Cavalry

He owned 480 acres North of Wharton in the northern part of the Alexander Jackson League, and raised cotton, sugar cane, and horses.

He married Sarah Elizabeth Rowe in Wharton, sometime between 1850-1852. They had 4 children born in Wharton.
