History of Greene County,
Pennsylvania
J. P. McGLUMPHY, farmer, P. O. Rutan, was born in Center Township,
Greene County, Pennsylvania, July 16. 1822. He is a son of Edward and Margaret (Haines)
McGlumphy. His father was a native of Ireland, and his mother of Maryland.
They were the parents of seven children, of whom four are living. Mr. McGlumphy was united in marriage February
11, 1847, with Lida A. Thomas. Mrs.
McGlumphy was born in this county March
12, 1831, and is a
daughter of James and Elizabeth Thomas.
Mr. and Mrs. McGlumphy are the parents of four children—Maria
S., wife
of Henry Scott; Hiram R.; Elizabeth M., wife of F. M. Carpenter, and
Lucy J.,
wife of W. H. Throckmorton. Mr.
McGlumphy has been a farmer all his life, and owns a nice home where he
and
family reside. He and wife are prominent
members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and are highly respected
by all
who know them.
