History of Greene County,
Pennsylvania
J. M. WHITE, farmer and stock-grower, who was born
in Somerset County,
Penn.,
July 14, 1826, is a son of Edward and Nancy (Rush) White.
His parents were natives of Somerset County,
and of English lineage. His father, who
came to Aleppo
Township in 1828,
was a farmer. He died December 13, 1853. His mother lived until 1872.
The subject of this sketch is the second in a
family of six children, and was reared on the farm, receiving his
education in
the common schools. He chose farming as
his occupation, has made his own way in the world, and is the owner of
a well
improved farm where he resides in Aleppo Township. Mr. White was united in marriage, February
13, 1848, with Rebecca, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Simons)
Hemett, and
they are parents of three children, viz—Perry J., Stephen and Sarah
Esther
(deceased). Mrs. White is a member of
the Friends’ Church. Mr. White is a
Democrat, has been for seventeen years justice of the peace, and has
served as
school director in his township. He is a
prominent member of the I. O. O. F.
