History of Greene
County,
Pennsylvania
WILLIAM TEDROW, farmer and stock-grower, was born
in Somerset County,
Penn.,
June 17, 1823, and is a son of Henry and Elizabeth (Johnson) Tedrow,
who were
of German and English origin. His father,
who was a farm, died in Aleppo
Township in 1876. Of his family of nine children, the subject
of this sketch is the second. He was
reared on the home farm and received a limited education in the old log
school-house of the district. He has
made a success of his farming and stock-growing, and now owns 326 acres
of well
improved land. Mr. Tedrow was married in
Somerset County, November 17, 1844, to
Sarah A.,
daughter of Leonard and Elizabeth (Whipkey) Straight, who were of
German and
English extraction. Mrs. Tedrow died
January
29, 1888. Their children are Josiah,
William H., Mariah, Mary E., wife of E. B. Moos; Catharine A., wife of
James
Whipkey; Minerva J., wife of M. Bayles.
Mr. Tedrow is a Democrat. He
belongs
to the Church
of God, of which
his deceased wife was also
a member.
