Pennsylvania
LUTHER A. SMITH, farmer and stock-grower, was born
in Richhill Township,
Greene County, November 21, 1852. His parents were Andrew and Ellen (Little)
Smith. His father was born in Scotland, and came to America
when a young man. He settled in Greene County,
where he died in 1880. His mother was a
native of Washington
County. Of a family of six children, Luther Smith is
the fifth who grew to maturity. He was
brought up on his father’s farm and relieved a common-school education. He has been a successful farmer, and owns 103
acres of excellent land where he resides in Aleppo Township. Mr. Smith has been twice married, his first
wife being Mary, daughter of John and Ellen (Cox) Edgar, whom he
married in
1871. They were the parents of three
children—Alonzo D., William B. and Harry.
Mrs. Smith died in this county.
Mr. Smith’s present wife is Hannah, daughter of Lewis and Jane
Pettit. They were married in 1885, and
have one child—John
C. Mr. Smith is a member of the I. O. O.
