History of Greene
County,
Pennsylvania
B. F. PHILLIPS, farmer and stock-grower, was born
in Washington County, Penn.,
July 10, 1833, and is a son of Levi and Sarah (McCracken) Phillips,
natives of Pennsylvania,
and of
Irish origin. His father was a farmer
all his life. The subject of our sketch,
the youngest of eight children, was reared on the farm, where he
received a
common-school education. Mr. Phillips
has made farming and stock-growing his employment through life, and
owns 340
acres of land, which he has procured entirely by his own exertions. He was united in marriage, in 1871, with Miss
Sarah, daughter of Matthias and Sarah (McClain) Roseberry, natives of Greene County. Mr.
and Mrs. Phillips are the parents of four
children—Joseph M., Arthur Lee, Maggie R. and Levi N.
Mr. Phillips is a Republican in politics.
