Pennsylvania
JOSEPH McCRACKEN, P.O. Cameron, Marshall
County, West
Va., was born in Washington County, Penn.,
February 13, 1827. He is a son of Daniel
and Mary (Crall) McCracken, natives of Pennsylvania,
and of Irish and Dutch descent. His
father, who died in West
Virginia,
was a farmer all his life. His family
consisted of eight children, of whom the subject of this sketch is the
oldest. He was reared on the farm and
received
his education in the common school. He
has been a very successful farmer and stock-grower, having at one time
owned
over six hundred acres of land. On
February
20, 1853, Mr. McCracken married Miss Mary E., daughter of Jennings J.
Moss, and
they have nine children, viz.: Joseph, a farmer; J. C., a physician;
George and
J. M. B., farmers; Mary, wife of H T. Winnett; S. W. S. and Samuel E. Two of the children are deceased.
Mr. McCracken is a Republican. He
and his wife and children are members of
the Methodist Episcopal Church.
