Ymunodd John â'r Royal Garrison Artillery, anfonwyd ef allan i Ffrainc, ac yn un or brwydrau yn agos i Albert ar ddydd cyntaf o Fawrth, clwyfwyd ef yn beryglus, fel y bu farw ym mhen pedwar diwrnod, sef Mawrt.h 4, 1917, yn 20 mlwydd oed.

"To a foreign grave, Far Far away
A sad mothers thought wander day by day;
Unseen by this world he stands by my side
And whispers, dear mother, don't, death does not divide,
Sleep on beloved, sleep and take thy rest,
Lay down thy head upon thy Saviours breast.

The son of Mrs. Griffith, 15 Britannia Square, Bangor, is pictured above. John joined the Royal Garrison Artillery, he was sent over to France and in a battle close to Albert on 1st March he was mortally wounded . He died March 4, 1917,aged 20 .
