Major Bayliss was the son of the late Mr. John F. Bayliss, Deputy Town Clerk of
Rhyl, and was formerly a student at Bangor University College, where he had
taken his degree in Science with first class honours, and had also been Dean
Edwards' Prizeman. On the outbreak of war he received a commission in the Royal
Field Artillery, and went with the Guards Division to France. In 1916 he was
promoted Captain. He was mentioned in dispatches, won the Military Cross, July,
1917, and was promoted Major. He was one of the many brilliant careers cut short
by the war, and the gallant officer wilt be much missed in many circles. He was
buried in Dozinghem Cemetery, September 29, 1917.
