Major Dargie was the third son of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Dargie, Upper Bangor. He
was educated at Grove Park School, Wrexham, and was well known as a footballer
through North Wales. Prior to the outbreak of war, the late Major Dargie was
given a commission in the Welsh (Carnarvon) Royal Garrison Artillery, and went
to France with his unit as a Lieutenant in 1916. A few months later he was made
Captain of the Battery, and in 1917, left the unit to become O.C., 137 Heavy
Battery, R.G.A., with whom he served until mortally wounded at Lane, France, on
September 18, 1917. In Field Marshall Sir Douglas Haig's dispatch, dated
November 7, 1917, Major Dargie was mentioned "for gallant and distinguished
services in the field."
